ISO 15902:2004 defines the basic terms for diffractive optical elements for free space propagation. The purpose of these definitions is to provide an agreed-upon common terminology that will reduce ambiguity and misunderstanding and thereby aid in the development of the field of diffractive optics.

Foreword
The text of ISO 15902:2004 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 172 "Optics
and optical instruments" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has
been taken over as EN ISO 15902:2005 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 123 "Lasers and
laser-related equipment" the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2005, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2005.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of
the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium,
Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,
Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland,
Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
Endorsement notice
